Our Story

Nearly thirty-three years ago, back in 1987, a mischievous two-year-old boy from Kolkata began a journey that would shape the rest of his life. Holding tightly onto his father’s hand, he set out on what would become his very first memorable trip—to Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

His father, a humble primary school teacher with very limited income, had one great passion: travelling. No matter how small the budget was, he always found a way to explore new places. Holidays were planned with care—staying in modest government guest houses, travelling in sleeper and second-class train compartments, moving around in autos, carrying their own bedding, and even packing a small stove to cook simple meals on the way.

And the little boy? He followed his father everywhere, slowly catching the same travel bug. As the years passed, the child who once toddled along on his father’s journeys grew into a teenager who had already seen almost every corner of India—thanks to the dedication and wanderlust of his not-so-rich but adventurous father.

It was much later in life that he finally understood what a powerful combination love and obsession can be. The same boy who had once wandered across India with his father continued to travel whenever school or college allowed him a break. Money was always a concern, yet his passion for exploring places always managed to break through every barrier.

By 2010, that little boy had grown into a senior marketing professional in a large multinational company. He had spent years building his career—working day and night, climbing the corporate ladder, earning six or seven promotions. But suddenly he found himself standing at a crossroads: should he continue with the well-paid, stable job, or should he follow the lifelong pull of travel that had been in his heart since childhood?

For two or three sleepless nights, he wrestled with the decision. Then, one morning, an email of resignation finally reached the HR department. And just like that, the familiar message that used to arrive every 28th—“Salary has been credited”—stopped coming. The man who had once been a fearless, mischievous two-year-old now felt a flicker of fear as an adult. He had stepped into the unknown.

But with that fear came a new beginning. A startup was born. A name was chosen: “Chutii dot Com.”
The very first tour he organized carried 19 cherished guests—destination: Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India, the same place where his own journey had begun decades earlier.
